The Band

A powerful and raunchy Rhythm & Blues 5-piece, Chris Lord & her Blues Express produce classic blues with a hint of jazz, a touch of “sauce” and lots of nostalgia.

The band is driven by the superb voice of Chris Lord, supported by a heady mix of tenor sax and guitar, all built upon a first-class rhythm section. Together the band merges to weave a magical spell wherever they perform.

Influences range from early artists like Bessie Smith, Zuzu Bollin and Big Mama Thornton to more modern exponents of the art such as Dana Gillespie and Imelda May. They take great pains to dig out some rare gems of lesser-known songs whilst adding their own interpretation to more familiar tracks ensuring their performance is interesting, sometimes surprising and always fun.

The Old Riverport Jazz & Blues Festival St Ives 2025

It was great to be part of this wonderful Festival in lovely town of St Ives, our gig was moved to The Corn Exchange due to bad weather but the place was bursting at the seams.  What a fabulous audience, it makes a big difference to the band when the audience are up for it and they definitely were.  Thanks to everyone who came to the gig and thank you to John Souter and his team for organising another successful event.  We're very much hoping to take part in next year's festival

Great Review from Blues In Britain Magazine

John Mitchell, journalist for Blues in Britain Magazine, attended a gig we did at Farnham and gave the band an excellent review  - here's a snapshot

"Chris Lord and her band was witnessed by a discerning audience who appreciated the fine voice, great musicianship and an interesting selection of covers: some unusual, some familiar but done with a twist ..... A fine performance from Chris Lord and her Blues Express, I shall look forward to catching them again."

Thank you John.
